October 02, 2017 01:08 am | Updated 01:13 am IST

Mumbai Metro One, which ferries nearly 3.9 lakh commuters between Andheri and Ghatkopar every day, will celebrate Daan Utsav this year too. As many as four NGOs will put up multiple stalls at Metro stations with the theme Games for a Cause, that will sensitise commuters about child rights and education.

Said a Mumbai Metro One spokesperson, “We have been participating in Daan Utsav since 2014 with a unique theme every year.” Each year, themes have focused on women and children. This year, NGO Annamrita will provide free boxes of khichdi at metro stations and sensitise people on starvation deaths among children, while Children Toy Foundation will involve commuters in games and highlight the importance of learning through play. Two other NGOs, Magic Bus and CRY Foundation, will also sensitise commuters about child rights and importance of education through games.

Stalls will be put up at DN Nagar, Chakala, Marol, Saki Naka and Andheri. “The idea is to make the commuters experience the joy of giving without using boring or preachy means,” said the spokesperson. “They will come to the stalls, play games, enjoy themselves and offer to donate if they feel like doing so.”
