Driver held for assaulting traffic cop

Mumbai: A tempo driver was arrested for assaulting a traffic police constable at Andheri (West) on Saturday, after the policeman reprimanded him for turning onto a barricaded road.

Constable Nitin Rathod was on duty at Yari Road, when the tempo driver took a U-turn onto a barricaded road. Mr. Rathod told the driver to stop, but he did not pay heed. When Mr. Rathod intercepted the driver, the latter got out of the vehicle, shouted abuses at Mr. Rathod and began beating him up. A passerby d and helped Mr. Rathod, who then approached the police. The police arrested the tempo driver, Nanku Kalluram Yadav. He was presented in court on Saturday and remanded in police custody.
