Cricketer Shardul Thakur’s parents injured in accident

Cricketer Shardul Thakur’s parents were injured when their motorcycle met with an accident in Palghar district, the police said on Wednesday.

The fast bowler’s father, Narendra, and mother, Hansa, were headed to Mahim village, about 115 km from here, when their two-wheeler skidded off Kelwa-Mahim road on Tuesday night, an official at the Palghar police station said.

Some repair work was under way on the road, the official said. The couple were injured and were rushed to a hospital. Doctors later said they were out of danger.

“We are yet to record their statements as they are undergoing treatment,” the police official said.

Shardul Thakur, 26, hails from Palghar. He is currently playing for the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the Indian Premier League T20 cricket tournament. On Tuesday, he was selected for the squad for India’s one-off Test match against Afghanistan next month.
