Court to be moved over razing of cross

May 03, 2017 12:03 am | Updated 12:03 am IST - Mumbai

BJP city president Ashish Shelar on Tuesday said one month’s time would be given to move the court with regard to religious structures notified for demolition. His decision came after Christians protested against the demolition of a 122-year-old cross in Bandra last week.

Anil Joseph, an activist from Bandra, said they will approach the court in the matter. A protest has been planned on Wednesday at the BMC ward office at Hill Road in Bandra.

Mr. Shelar demanded an inquiry into the demolition and discussed steps to be taken with BMC and police officials. He also met caretakers of 38 religious structures and offered to give them legal guidance.

Mr. Shelar said the Municipal Commissioner would recheck all documents of the structures demolished so far and take action against those guilty of wilfully hurting religious sentiments. He said CCTV cameras will be put up near religious structure in the next two months.
