Charlie Hebdo cartoons: Maharashtra transfers cases to CID

Published - March 18, 2015 06:13 pm IST - MUMBAI

Maharashtra government has transferred all five FIRs filed against senior Urdu journalist and former editor of ‘Avadhnama, Mumbai’ Shirin Dalvi, to State CID. The State informed the Bombay High Court about its order on Wednesday, when the court was hearing a petition filed by Ms Dalvi.

She has sought clubbing of all the FIRs and quashing of complaints against her. The State informed the court that it had transferred the investigation in all the five matters to State CID in Pune.

Ms Dalvi was hounded by fundamentalists. Five FIRs were registered against her after she reproduced some of the controversial Charlie Hebdo cartoons in Avadhnama in January this year. She had immediately issued an apology. The paper too had closed down soon.

But she was allegedly issued death threats. FIRs were registered at various places in Maharashtra against her. She had approached the Bombay High Court last month seeking clubbing of all complaints against her and quashing of FIRs.

The court will now hear the matter next on April 15 when it will hear arguments on quashing of cases against her.
