Actor Udita Goswami on Wednesday recorded her statement with the Thane Crime Branch in connection with the probe into the call data record (CDR) racket that was busted earlier this year.
Ms. Goswami is one of the celebrities whose name cropped up in the investigations following the arrest of lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui on March 17. “We had found some chat conversations of Ms. Goswami’s in Mr. Siddiqui’s cell phone, due to which the need to record her statement arose,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Trimukhe, Thane Crime Branch, said.
Apart from Ms. Goswami, Jackie Shroff’s wife Ayesha, Sahil Khan, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and his wife Anjali have been under the scanner due to their alleged association with Mr. Rizwan Siddiqui. The lawyer was released by the police on March 22 following a Bombay High Court order in response to a petition filed by his wife challenging his arrest.

The lid was blown off the racket in January when Thane Crime Branch sleuths arrested four Navi Mumbai-based private detectives for allegedly obtaining call records, and selling them to their clients. As per law, call records can only be obtained by an officer of superintendent or deputy commissioner of police level or above.
The police also arrested several others, including India’s first female private detective Rajani Pandit for allegedly buying call records, Pune-based software engineer Ajinkya Nagargoje and Yavatmal police constable Nitin Khavade for allegedly misusing the official email id of the Superintendent of Police, Yavatmal, and constable Bhubhaneshwar Das from the Assam police.
