‘Bullet train not common man’s dream’

September 15, 2017 12:04 am | Updated 12:04 am IST - Mumbai

Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana criticised the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project on Thursday by saying that it was only a dream project for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and not the common man.

The criticism came after Mr. Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe laid the foundation stone for the project in Ahmedabad.

The editorial said, “We are getting a bullet train without asking for it. We do not know what problem it will exactly solve. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation of several projects to ensure the country advanced in technology and science. Does this bullet train fit into the needs of the country?”

It said of the project’s estimated cost of ₹1,08,000 crore, at least ₹30,000 crore would have to be spent by the Maharashtra government.
