The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday approved ₹3.04 lakh to be paid to a consultant to tag public toilets in the city on Google Maps.
Central directive
A Central government directive issued on May 18, 2017, asked all cities to ensure that citizens were informed about the location of public toilets in their vicinity. Civic bodies were also asked to ensure key places such as hospitals, railway stations and bus stops were also tagged on the maps.

The BMC’s proposal said that M/s Quality Council of India had the requisite expertise and technical know how to tag the key amenities in the city on the maps. The BMC felt the the initiative would help it earn precious points in the nationwide cleanliness survey, Swachata Survey 2018.
Payment in installments
The BMC has already paid ₹2.33 lakh to the QCI. The pending ₹1.86 lakh will to be paid after completion of the task. Assistant Municipal Commissioner Kiran Dighavkar said, “We have completed the task and the details have been uploaded in our Swachta App.”
