Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) was the worst affected in the Bharat bandh on Monday. Apart from a few instances, trains and buses ran as usual.
Seventeen BEST buses were damaged in stone-pelting incidents at Vashi toll booth, Prateeksha Nagar depot, Goregaon, Lalbaug, and Reay Road. Fourteen buses’ glass panes and windows were shattered. There were no diversions of bus routes as the situation was immediately brought under control.
Around 100 Congress workers, including Sanjay Nirupam and Ashok Chavan, held up trains at Andheri station. A Borivali-bound slow local was stopped at 9.40 a.m. and services resumed around 10 a.m. They also tried to block trains at Dadar, Govandi, Bhandup and Ghatkopar stations, but were cleared from the tracks by security personnel. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers tried to enter Bhakti Park Monorail station, but were stopped by security staff.

Motorists were hit in some areas as members of the Nationalist Congress Party, Congress, and the MNS staged protests on the Eastern Express Highway, Sion-Panvel highway, and near Borivali National Park on the Western Express Highway, Mulund toll booth, and Teen Hath Naka in Thane.
