Arrested youth flees from custody, nabbed

Gives police the slip during medical check-up at Panvel rural hospital

An accused remanded to judicial custody on Monday by Panvel court managed to flee from Panvel rural hospital on Monday around 7 p.m. and was arrested again on Tuesday by Panvel City Police around 8 a.m.

Ajay Kamlakar Nirguda (19), a resident of Masoda village in Panvel, was arrested by the police on February 12. He was remanded to judicial custody and was lodged in Taloja jail.

On Monday, the police, after finding Nirguda’s involvement in another theft case of two bikes, and three house breaks, arrested him again and produced him before the Panvel Magistrate court. He was remanded to judicial custody, and before sending him to Taloja jail, the police had taken him to the Panvel rural hospital for medical check-up.

Senior Police Inspector Sunil Bajare from the Panvel City Police Station said, “The accused is very short with a lean body frame and the handcuffs were loose for him. Taking advantage of that, he released his hands from the cuffs and fled from the hospital.” A case was registered against the accused under section 224 of the IPC. The police teams searched the area the entire night and spotted Nirguda hiding behind a farm house there. Mr. Bajare said, “He was presented before the court on Tuesday again, and has been remanded to judicial custody.”
