Accused attempts suicide outside Panvel court

The accused in a string of robbery cases attempted suicide outside Panvel court on Friday afternoon after Panvel Taluka police refused to release the bike he had used to commit the thefts.

The accused, identified as Ramzan Abdul Jalil Khan (25), a resident of Taloja, was arrested for stealing mobile phones. Khan, who runs a chicken shop in Taloja, demanded that his motorcycle be returned after he was produced in court and granted bail.

A police officer said, “We could not give him back the bike as it was used in committing crimes. On Friday, he tried to kill himself by inflicting injuries on his body using a tile. He later started banging his head on the tile. We then arrested him for attempt to suicide.”
