Three held for robbing woman in Kamothe

Mumbai: Three men in their twenties, earning decent salaries, decided to rob a woman as they wanted to have a lavish New Year’s Eve party. All three have been arrested for robbing the woman by pretending to be policemen in Kamothe on Thursday.

While Vinod Prabhakar Borse (26) and Pradeep Rajendar Chaudhar (26) are Kalamboli residents, Darpan Surendar Talwar (24) is a resident of Ulwe.

Borse is the son of a retired API and earns ₹15,000 at a private firm. Chaudhar, a CISF constable from Jaipur, earns close to ₹20,000 a month, while Talwar runs a Chinese food joint at Ulwe. “Chaudhar had come home on holiday, but had not returned to Jaipur and hence had no money left. The three were childhood friends. They wanted to have a lavish New Year’s Eve bash, planned to rob someone,” Senior PI Ashok Naik from Kamothe Police Station said.

On Thursday, they approached Radha Kisan Mhatre (48), a resident of Sector 34 in Kamothe, who runs a beauty parlour at her residence. Wearing khakhi pants and formal shoes, they pretended to be policemen from Kamothe police station and . demanded ₹1 lakh from her. They threatened to book her under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, Mr. Naik said.

Since Ms. Mhatre did not have the money, they snatched her gold chain and mobile phone. The CCTV cameras nearby captured the trio and the motorcycle they used. Talwar was nabbed with the motorcycle and revealed information about his two accomplices. Police suspect that this was their first crime. All three have been arrested under IPC sections 452, 392, 384, 170 and 34.
