Navi Mumbai double murder accused arrested

The Navi Mumbai Crime Branch Unit II on Wednesday arrested the main accused in the double murder of father-son duo.

The accused, Ravindra Mhatre (24), a rickshaw driver, has been arrested a week after the murder.

The murder of Lakshman Mhatre and his son Rupesh Mhatre happened on December 28, following which their relatives were arrested by the Khandeshwar police. The arrested relatives were Lakshman’s nephew, nieces and mother-in-law of one of the nieces. They have been identified as Sunita Mhatre, Mangesh Mhatre, Rachna Bhopi, Vanita Bhopi and her mother-in-law Fashibai Bhopi.

The murder allegedly happened over a dispute of a property at Vichumbe village in Panvel, belonging to the family of accused. Lakshman’s sister, Babytai Janardhan Jadhav had constructed a house on the property and on 28 December, the accused and Ms. Jadhav had a fight over the property. The victims reached the spot to solve the fight and according to police, the accused family attacked Rupesh, Lakshman and his wife Mirabai. Lakshman and Rupesh succumbed to the injuries after Ravindra stabbed them with iron rods.
