Hit-and-run case: Salman appears in court without summons

The actor was present to witness the deposition of the original investigating officer of the case against him.

Actor Salman Khan remained present before sessions court judge D.W. Deshpande in Mumbai on Thursday during the hit-and-run trial. The actor, dressed in blue denim shirt and jeans, was present even in the absence of any summons issued to him.

“The court has not directed him to remain present today,” a senior advocate told The Hindu . The actor was present to witness the deposition of the original investigating officer of the case against him.

Mr. Khan entered the court premises at around 11.30 a.m., and walked inside a packed courtroom at noon. Police had to quell the rising crowd outside the courtroom. Only lawyers and journalists were allowed to enter the courtroom.

Mr. Khan, accompanied by his sister, sat in the first row in the court. He kept approaching his lawyer time and again in the beginning, seemingly giving short instructions.

The investigating officer identified the panchnama of the spot he had prepared after the accident on September 28, 2002. He also identified pieces of evidence seized from the spot, including blood-stained soil, broken fibre glass, white front bumper of the vehicle involved in the accident.

The deposition continues.
