MUMBAI: A day after he compared Mumbai to Patna, the city unit of the Congress on Tuesday demanded an apology from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The party’s city unit chief Sanjay Nirupam termed the statement inappropriate, and demanded that Mr. Fadnavis withdraw it immediately.

At a rally in Mulund on Wednesday, the CM said the reputation of the BMC had in complaint redress mechanism is pathetic. He said the Sena has brought down Mumbai’s ranking to as low as that of Patna. “You (Sena) have brought down Mumbai to the level of Patna. That Patna, which is of Lalu Prasad Yadav. Your performance is so low that you now stand with Patna.”

Mr. Nirupam said, “This is nothing but the CM’s hatred towards Biharis and UPites. The BJP is still insulting the people of Bihar. But he goes to the events of north Indian organisations just for votes.” The Mumbai Congress is likely to take up the issue with the SEC. “We will seek legal opinions and accordingly, a complaint will be filed against the Chief Minister.”

Match fixing

The Congress leader said the Sena and the BJP are in a match fixing. “They are taking a jibe against each other merely for votes. Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is not talking about the timing of the withdrawal from the government. The Sena ministers are threatening to quit the government. But they do not actually dare to do so.”
