MUMBAI: The Mumbai city unit of Congress announced its first list of 115 candidates late Tuesday night for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The names of 19 sitting and 11 former corporators figure in the list.
The effect of the intense infighting between party chief Sanjay Nirupam and senior leader and former MP Gurudas Kamat were evident, with no names being announced for the electoral wards falling under Mr. Kamat’s North-West Mumbai Lok Sabha constituency.
According to sources in the Congress, the second and final list will be declared on Wednesday. “There may be some differences between some leaders but this is not the right time to talk about it. Our primary aim is to get rid of the corrupt Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule from the BMC,” Mr. Nirupam said, when asked about his tiff with Mr. Kamat.

In the first list, the party has given tickets to 64 Marathi candidates, 18 north Indians, 12 Muslim, 11 Gujarati, three Christians, five south Indians and one each from the Punjabi and Sindhi community.
