Mumbai: Over 97 instances of malpractices were detected by the flying squad in the ongoing Class XII board exams in the State on Thursday. The maximum number of cases were registered in Aurangabad division, where about 55 instances of exam malpractices were registered on a single day.

This was followed by the Nagpur and Nashik divisions with 19 instances each registered. So far, not a single instance of malpractice has been found in Mumbai in the ongoing board exams. Close to 252 flying squads are actively working in the 2,710 exam centres across the State, monitoring 15, 5365 students appearing for the exams.

“The flying squad includes government officials, teachers or even policemen (depending on their availability ) who are specifically constituted for this purpose. If a malpractice is caught, then the candidate’s paper is seized and the case is presented to an inquiry committee that decides the quantum of punishment based on existing exam rules. The punishment could range from cancellation of the answer script to barring the candidate from exams, depending on the nature of the offence,” Krishnakumar Patil, Secretary, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, said.
