Men follow woman after she collects jewellery from bank

Hot pursuit: CCTV footage shows the four men following the woman on two bikes in Nerul on Monday.

Four bike-borne men stole a bag containing 12 tolas of gold jewellery from a 37-year-old woman after she withdrew it from a bank’s locker and was heading to mortgage it at a finance company in Nerul on Monday afternoon.

Nerul police said that CCTV footage obtained from the Bank of Maharashtra branch in Sector 3 showed the four men loitering in the bank while the woman was taking out her jewellery from the locker.

The victim’s husband, a professor and resident of Sector 28, said, “My wife hired an auto after collecting her jewellery from the bank and headed towards Mannapuram Finance’s office in Sector 10.

She got off the auto and was crossing the road to reach the finance company’s office when the four men drove their bikes close to her and snatched her bag, which contained the jewellery and a mobile phone.”

The woman approached the nearest police station and registered a complaint. Senior Police Inspector Ashok Rajput said, “The accused were looking for targets in the bank. When they saw the woman leaving with her bag, they followed her and robbed her. We have registered a case of robbery and investigation is on.”
