Mumbai: A 21-year-old dentistry student with BYL Nair Hospital Dental College committed suicide in the college’s hostel at Kalachowky on Tuesday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Bhagyalaxmi Mutha, a resident of Ichalkaranji.

“One of Bhagyalaxmi's friends had left her room key with her on Monday. Hence, she was calling Bhagyalaxmi, who did not turn up for classes. When repeated calls went unanswered, her friend asked someone to check on her. The friend went to Bhagyalaxmi’s room, but got no response to repeated knocking, after which he alerted the watchman,” said senior inspector Dilip Ugale, Kalachowky police station.
