Gamdevi police arrested over 100 activists of Rajput Karni Sena for allegedly staging a protest without permission outside the Central Board of Film Certification office in the city on Friday.
Karni Sena on Thursday had announced its intention to protest outside the CBFC office in Peddar Road to express its dissatisfaction with the CBFC‘s decision to approve the release Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavat. Karni Sena said a mere change in the film’s title was not enough and it would not let the movie to be screened.
The Mumbai Police deployed personnel at the CBFC office and kept reinforcements on standby to avoid a law-and-order situation. Protesters who arrived at the CBFC office were taken to Gamdevi police station, where they were booked and later released.

Dnyaneshwar Chavan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II), said, “The protesters did not seek permission to hold the protest. They were arrested and booked for unlawful assembly. We arrested 132 protesters and later released them on bail.”
At the CBFC examining committee meeting on December 28, it was decided that the movie would be given a U/A certification. Some of the key modifications suggested include adding a disclaimers not to glorify the practice of Sati.
The Karni Sena has also demanded the resignation of Prasoon Joshi, the chairman of CBFC.
