The Superintendent of Police, Birbhum, Alok Rajoria said no complaint regarding the torture of the woman has been registered with the police so far. “Seikh Mithun is an accused in six to seven serious cases. After receiving the complaint, we will take appropriate action,” Mr. Rajoria told The Hindu .

According to the woman, her body was daubed with poisonous leaves by the police.

“The Officer in Charge of Parui Police Station and the CI (an official) of Bolpur police station along with Trinamool Congress leaders came to my relative’s (Seikh Mithun) house and asked where Mithun is. When I said that I do not know about his whereabouts, they took me to a jungle and assaulted me,” the woman told media persons.

Condemning the incident, West Bengal President of the BJP Rahul Sinha demanded “immediate suspension” of the two police officers.

“We are considering taking legal recourse in connection with the incident. We have also informed Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi about this,” Mr. Sinha said.
