A teacher of a college in Paschim Medinipur district on Tuesday alleged that he was beaten up by supporters of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the students’ wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), for posting certain comments against the student on a social networking site.
Amit Roy, a teacher of Economics at Ghatal Rabindra Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya, had posted comments on his Facebook page on January 16 and January 21 raising questions on the student election process and suggesting that the elections were not fair.
West Bengal TMCP president Ashok Rudra, however, rubbished the allegation that he was attacked.

Mr Rurdra, however, admitted that TMCP activists went to meet Mr. Roy earlier in the day regarding his comments on TMCP on a social networking site.
“I was sitting in my classroom when the TMCP general secretary of the college Hemanta Das asked me to come outside. Some students showed me printouts of my Facebook account and questioned me about the comments and started assaulting me,” said Mr. Roy.
He alleged that due to the intervention of other teachers the students left, but they entered the staff room and pushed him to the ground. “This is nothing but tyranny. I have lodged a complaint in the local police station,” added Mr. Roy.
“We want Mr. Roy to give priority to teaching. For politics, there are other places,” Mr Rudra said.
In April 2012, Jadavpur University professor was beaten up by local Trinamool Congress supporters and later arrested for circulating an e-mail containing graphics of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
