Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy will appear before the CBI in connection with the Saradha scam, the party leader said here on Wednesday.

“I have repeatedly said that I will cooperate with the investigating agency. On the 30 of this month, the CBI has asked me to appear before it and at the time designated by them I will visit their office,” Mr Roy told journalist at the city airport, clearing confusions about his visit to the CBI office.

The CBI had issued summons to the TMC general secretary in the second week of January, but Mr Roy sought a leave from appearing before the agency sighting political engagements.

The Bengal government and the TMC has approached the Supreme Court seeking a court-monitored CBI probe, but the hearing of the matter was deferred on Tuesday.

Mr Roy is the senior most leader of the party to be summoned by the CBI in the Saradha scam, which has caused considerable embarrassment to the ruling party.

Though the TMC leader has claimed that he has not done anything wrong, the political parties in the Opposition have claimed that higher ups in the Trinamool Congress, including the Rajya Sabha MP are involved in the scam.

Meanwhile, suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh arrested in connection with Saradha scam reiterated his demand of replacing Mamata Banerjee as the West Bengal chief minister.
