Breakaway Left faction to file RTI on Wi-Fi

February 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 10:10 am IST - Kolkata

: Demanding clarification on the nature of Wi-Fi service in Kolkata launched by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday, the Left Collective, mainly formed by breakaway members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has decided to file an RTI in this regard.

“We will file an RTI before the State Government and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) about this Wi-Fi service within a couple of days. We would like to know whether this is a joint venture or a pubic-private-partnership,” Prasenjit Bose, Convenor of Left Collective told The Hindu here on Friday.

“That a Chief Minister of a State has got directly involved in a promotional venture on behalf of a private corporate smacks of cronyism,” said Mr. Bose in a press statement.

Mr. Bose pointed out that since the service was being provided by a private company it was unlikely to be ‘free’ to users.
