BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh reiterated his denial of speculations about former Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Mukul Roy joining the BJP. He had made similar statements on Monday.
“The BJP’s campaign has been against corruption and we do not want to carry the taint,” Mr. Singh said here on Tuesday. However, he avoided a direct reply to whether Mr. Roy and other TMC leaders, who had faced a probe in connection to the multi-crore Saradha scam, would be inducted into the BJP if they were given a clean chit by the court or the CBI. Rather he said Mukul Roy’s joining is ‘a hypothetical question’ and thus cannot be answered.
Mr. Singh accused the TMC government for the rise in unlawful activities in West Bengal. “Today, we are seeing that terror is being manufactured, trained and exported out from Bengal. Those involved in cow smuggling also smuggle gold. But despite being alerted by the Centre about this, the Bengal Government is silent and the Chief Minister does not want to speak about this,” said Mr. Singh.

“Under the TMC, it seems that a full fledged infrastructure has developed in Bengal for cow smuggling to Bangladesh, printing of fake currency notes, terror activities such as the Bardhaman blast and flourishing of money laundering companies,” he added.
Referring to the recent seizure of a large number of fake currency note by the Special Task Force of Kolkata Police, Mr. Singh claimed that these notes were being printed in Bengal itself.
