A day after the city was shocked to find a middle-aged man, Partha De, living with the skeletons of his elder sister and two pet dogs, the police said on Friday that no evidence of foul play had been found in the case.
“Till now, we have not detected any foul play. Samples of DNA [from the skeleton of Debjani De] have been sent for examination,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said. He said the laptops and three cellphones recovered from the flat on Robinson Lane in south Kolkata were being examined.
The case came to light when Aurabinda De, father of Partha De, set himself on fire on Wednesday evening and the police were called in by their relatives next door. As for the death of Aurabinda De, Mr. Ghosh said that so far the case appeared to be a suicide, adding that no homicidal angle had been found. Aurabinda De died of burns.

“No signs of violence such as injuries and fractures were found on Debjani De’s skeleton. Forensic experts have said that no embalming chemicals were found on the skeleton,” Mr. Ghosh said.
Doctors of Pavlov Hospital where Partha De was admitted on Thursday said treatment had started. “But so far, we have not been able to determine what kind of ailment he is suffering from,” hospital superintendent Ganesh Prasad said.
