A day after the police were attacked by a mob in the Kaliachak area of West Bengal’s Malda district, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
“Till now we have not received information about any arrests made in the case,” Inspector-General (Law and Order) Anuj Sharma told The Hindu .

Locals said that the attack was triggered when a “vehicle of the security forces” could not pass because of the rally and the jawans got into an “altercation” with some people in the gathering.
“Suddenly the situation flared up and the vehicle was vandalised. But even after the jawans went away, the Kaliachak police station was attacked,” said a resident of the area under condition of anonymity. The inspector-in-charge was injured in the incident.
On Sunday, minority organisation Anjuman Ahle Sunnatul Jamat (ASJ) organised a protest rally against derogatory comments made by Uttar Pradesh Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamlesh Tiwari against Prophet Muhammad. At least 30,000 people took part in the rally. An ASJ official, however, said that “outsiders” were behind the attack.
