Name change for frivolous reasons, says BJP

The BJP has opposed the resolution passed by the West Bengal Assembly endorsing a change in the State’s name to Bengal in English and Bangla in Bengali. The party has said the change had been done for frivolous reasons.

BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh told The Hindu : “The reasons cited by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee do not appear convincing.”

She was upset that the alphabetical order in which the Chief Ministers had been called to speak at a meeting meant her turn came at the end.
