Keezhkattalai bus terminus turned into a thoroughfare

April 19, 2019 05:12 pm | Updated 05:12 pm IST

Impatient motorists drive through this facility instead of waiting at an intersection on Medavakkam Main Road

Commuters at Keezhkattalai bus terminus have to exercise a great caution while alighting or boarding a bus. Reason: The spacious terminus is often used as a thoroughfare by motorists and autorickshaw drivers.

As per traffic rules and regulations, private vehicles, other than MTC buses, are not supposed to enter the terminus.

It is however common for private vehicles to enter the premises of the terminus. Visitors coming to the commercial establishments, situated inside the terminus, park their vehicles haphazardly, hindering free movement of buses.

MTC drivers complain that they find it difficult to enter or take the buses outside the terminus due to haphazard parking of vehicles near the entrance. Motorists coming from Big Street, Thiruvalluvar Nagar Main Road and Medavakkam Main Road enter the terminus to avoid getting caught in the traffic congestion at the intersection of Big Street, Medavakkam Main Road and Arul Murugan Nagar Road, Keezhkattalai. “Commuters are perplexed by the sudden entry of private vehicles inside the terminus. They need to be extra cautious while alighting the bus,” says M. Sudarshan, a resident of Periya Kovilambakkam. Additional staff must be deployed at the two entrances – one at Big Street and the other on Medavakkam Main Road.
