Gaur, deer rescued

Forest Department personnel on Tuesday rescued a gaur, and a spotted deer that fell into wells in Yercaud and Thekkampatti.

An eight-year-old gaur that strayed out of Shervaroyan forests in search of water fell into a well in Piliyur village on Monday. As the well had only little water, the gaur managed to survive.

A team of forest personnel from the Yercaud forest range led by Munusamy, forest ranger, rescued the animal.

The spotted deer fell into a well of Vaiyapuri, a farmer in Thekkampatti village. The accident could have occurred when tried to escape stray dogs.

A team led by Subramani, forest ranger, rescued the animal.

Forest Department officials said that all efforts have been taken to fill water tanks deep inside the forests to prevent animals from straying into human habitations in search of water.
