For eight hours, a city police team grilled a domestic help suspected to be the mastermind behind a robbery at Zamin Pallavaram but could not crack her.
While masked robbers escaped with 200 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the house of Yogaseran, a bank manager, after tying him and his wife with ropes at Zamin Pallavaram, the domestic help, Maharani, “attacked” by the robbers, had fainted.
When the sniffer dog went around her room a few times, the police suspected her involvement.

When confronted with the evidence, Maharani finally admitted after intense interrogation to having masterminded the crime, police said. The police officers, who interrogated the native of Madurai, said she was tougher to crack than hardcore criminals.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, St. Thomas Mount, M.S. Muthusamy told The Hindu , “The sustained interrogation brought out the truth.”
Yogaseran, a native of Madurai, is a general manager in a bank and was living with wife Subbulakshmi and son Thilagan, in Gordon Woodroff Nagar, Zamin Pallavaram.

His daughter Senthamizh Kavya is married and stayed in Chromepet.
The family engaged Maharani, 51, as a domestic help from their hometown. On Sunday afternoon, Kavya returned from a reception and gave over 175 sovereigns of jewellery, to her parents for keeping in the bank locker. On Sunday, Maharani entered the house and left the main door open. Within a few minutes, a gang of four masked men barged into the house. Brandishing knives, they tied the couple and fled with jewellery.
Yogaseran managed to raise an alarm after half an hour. The neighbours who heard the cries came to their rescue.
Mobile phones, knives with gold jewellery were recovered from them.
