Won’t tolerate bid to disturb peace: Minister

Amidst claims that some songs in the Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala sounded like a call to rebellion, Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar said the government would take legal action against anyone creating “confusion” for political gains.

Addressing the media, Mr. Jayakumar said Tamil Nadu was a peaceful State without law and order problems. “If attempts are made to disturb peace and instigate people, the government will not tolerate it.”

The media was so powerful and it should be used only for constructive purposes, the Minister said and cited how AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran used cinema as a medium to promote his ideals among masses.

Mocking at Mr. Rajinikanth for getting interested in politics after all these years, he asked: “Have you ever seen a movie in which our leader smoked or drank on screen? Just because you have entered politics, can you get knowledge?

Kaala would be lost like kaalans [mushrooms].”
