The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Saturday urged the Centre to withdraw the Road Safety and Transport Bill 2014, observing it would weaken public transport in the States.
Accusing the BJP government in New Delhi of nabbing powers of State governments, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said the new Bill would make it conducive for multinational corporations and private players to make profits, at the same time making the future of state transport corporations uncertain.
The Bill was “deceiving”, Mr. Karunanidhi said, adding that it would adversely impact several lakh workers employed in the transportation sector.
