Commuters at the MEPZ bus stop have no clue where their route numbers will halt

For commuters using the Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) bus stop in Tambaram Sanatorium, boarding their buses is akin to the card game, ‘Inside or Outside’.

No clue

For, there is no telling where the buses would stop — inside the bus bay or outside. This bus bay is meant for Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Limited (TNSTC) buses to stop.

As the bus bay has craters, many bus drivers choose to stop outside.

They halt near the intersection of Sanatorium Railway Station Road and Grand Southern Trunk Road.

Many bus services, including 70A, G18, E18 and G70, halt here.

“Commuters have no clue where the buses would stop. It depends on the discretion of the drivers. Given this, commuters run helter-skelter when they spot their route number,” says R. Aravind, a commuter. Moreover, the intersection witnesses heavy traffic through the day.

There is a constant flow of vehicles from all directions, which puts the running commuters at risk for accidents.

“Steps must be taken to re-lay the caved-in portions at the bus bay so that drivers halt inside,” says S. Srimathi, a commuter, said.
