The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police has booked a criminal case against Dravidar Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani for his disparaging remarks against a Hindu God while addressing a public meeting recently. The police filed the case after receiving complaints from Hindu Makkal Katchi and Thirumoolar Thiruthondu, a religious organisation.
In their complaint, the Thirumoolar Thiruthondu members alleged that Mr. Veeramani spoke of Lord Krishna in a derisive manner at a meeting in Periyar Thidal, Vepery.
B. Senthil, general secretary, Hindu Makkal Katchi, complained that Mr. Veeramani, in his speech, had made derogatory remarks hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity. Hence, they wanted the police to take action against him.

The CCB registered a first information report (FIR) against Mr. Veeramani under sections 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (Promoting enmity between classes), 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings), 298 (Uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person), 505 (1)(b), (Inducing any person to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquility) and 505(1)(c)(statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of the IPC.
