Commuters should brace themselves for more hardship as the indefinite strike by the trade unions affiliated to opposition political parties is set to continue on Monday.
After a meeting of the striking unions on Sunday, CITU leader A. Soundararajan said that the strike would go on. “The trade unions will present their case in the Madras High Court and seek a reversal of the court ruling which had termed the strike illegal on Friday,” he said.
The trade unions would also demand in the court, the invalidation of the agreement signed “slyly” by the State Transport department with a few trade unions even as wage talks were being held on Thursday.

The trade unions have also proposed to carry out agitations throughout the State on Monday.
Transport officials however, said a wage agreement has been signed, and insisted that only a group of “fringe” trade unions refused to sign and walked out of the talks. “Now, they have to face the court. The only option left for the striking transport employees is to return to work,” a senior official said.
