Two houses burgled

In two separate incidents of burglary in Korattur and Ayapakkam, burglars decamped with a total of 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery and over Rs. 10,000 in cash.

The first case was reported by Sivaraman (28), a supervisor with a cellphone manufacturing company, on Sunday night after he returned from Salem and found the lock on the front door of his house in 4 Street, Srinivasapuram in Korattur, broken. Gold jewellery weighing 45 sovereigns and Rs.10,000 in cash were missing.

Sivakumar had gone to Salem on Friday to drop his wife Nandhini at her parents' home and returned to Chennai around 10 p.m. He reached his house shortly after, to find that it had been burgled, Korattur police said.

In another case, burglars struck at the house of a retired State government employee, Mahalingam (58), at the Tamil Nadu Housing Board complex in Ayapakkam. He came home on Monday morning after visiting his son and found that his house had been broken into. Mahalingam claimed that close to Rs. 50,000 kept in the house was missing. Police are investigating further.

Jewels stolen

Gold jewels weighing about 5 sovereigns were stolen from the house of Gunasekaran (24) in Tambaram.

The burglary came to light on Monday. Police said Gunasekaran had left his home in Mullai Nagar on Friday, and spent the weekend at a relative's house.

When he returned on Monday morning, he found the house broken into and the jewels stolen.
