The Central Crime Branch police on Tuesday arrested two persons, including an engineering graduate, on charges of stealing the database of an educational consultancy firm to start their own company.

According to police sources, Suresh Subramanian (50), Director of Avon Institute of Modern Sciences (AIMS) in Teynampet, lodged a complaint with Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran that two employees had stolen vital data from his company and started their own firm.

A special team of the CCB was formed to investigate the case.

The team arrested K.V. Sriram (41) of Adyar and V. Lokesh Kumar (24) of Tambaram who worked in AIMS as General Manager and Coordinator respectively. “AIMS provides career guidance and training to school students. Sriram stole the students database and other data and started a firm called Reach Academy at Mogappair. Kumar connived with him,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (CCB) M.Sudhakar said.

Sriram would divert students to Reach Academy by claiming that it was part of AIMS. “A laptop and smartphone owned by AIMS was recovered from his possession. His acts since August 2010 prove that he not only stole data but also consistently acted against the interest of his parent company. Sriram is an engineering graduate with post-graduation in business administration from a reputed university,” Dr. Sudhakar said.

A case under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of IPC were registered against the accused persons who were produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, the sources added.
