Residents of Venkatapuram, Little Mount and Sri Nagar Colony, South Avenue, West Saidapet, have requested the Zone 13 of Greater Chennai Corporation to improve the lighting at the foot-over-bridge on Taluk Office Road in Little Mount.
The illumination from a lamppost on the eastern lane of Taluk Office Road provides minimal lighting for pedestrians using the foot-over-bridge after sunset.
Due to poor illumination at the facility, after sunset, visitors to an Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) retail outlet of Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) at Little Mount, used it as an open bar.

As a result, many pedestrians avoid the facility like the plague.
Without the FoB, pedestrians find it difficult to cross the road, which has fast-moving traffic, in the late hours of the day — the pedestrian signal is switched off after 10 p.m.
R. Narayanan, a resident of Venkatapuram, says, “With tipplers occupying the foot-over-bridge, pedestrians are left with no other option but to cross the stretch.”

Taluk Office Road is a one-way towards Adyar and Guindy; and as it is wide, motorists drive at a good clip. Besides, a good number of heavy vehicles bound for southern districts ply through Taluk Office Road.
Some pedestrians walk up to the intersection of Taluk Office Road and Sardar Patel Road opposite Raj Bhavan, where median are located, and cross the road there.
Calls to the authorities concerned in Zone 13 of Greater Chennai Corporation evoked no response.
