Train commuters have been complaining about unruly behaviour of visitors to a Tasmac outlet opposite Pazhavanthangal Railway Station, on Railway Station Road, but no action seems to have been taken.In the evening, this outlet receives a huge patronage. According to train commuters, customers at the outlet park their vehicles haphazardly on both sides of Railway Station Road, which is already narrow.
“Many of the visitors to the outlet consume liquor in the open. A vast section of the busy stretch, which connects to Thillai Ganga Nagar, is taken over by haphazardly parked vehicles, leading to disruption in traffic movement. In the evening hours, vehicular traffic often comes to a standstill,” V. Rama Rao, a resident, said.
After consuming liquor, the customers smoke on the road, which is to the discomfort of many commuters and pedestrians. A section of the tipplers smoke on the walkway of the foot-over bridge connecting M. G. R. Nagar Road, Pazhavanthangal – Meenambakkam, and Durairaj Street, Pazhavanthangal.

“For this reason, I do not use the FOB. I go through the Pazhavanthangal pedestrian-vehicular subway,” V. Venkatasubramanian, a senior citizen, said.
On Bharathiyar Lane, off Railway Station Road, tipplers relieve themselves, and consume liquor in the open. Some of them make fun of commuters.“We have complained to the police about this nuisance and have it’sover a decade since we started asking for the outlet to be shifted out. The shop causes great inconvenience to members of the public. No action has been taken so far,” said a few residents, on conditions of anonymity.

A senior police official said, “At periodic intervals, a beat policeman from the S9 Pazhavanthangal Police Station patrols the area around the outlet, and arrest tipplers, who consume liquor in theopen.”
“ We have complained to the Police, and the authorities concerned about the nuisance created by tipplers after sunset, and shifting the outlet for more than a decade. The shop is an inconvenience to the members of the public. No action has been taken till date,” residents, on conditions of anonymity, said.
