The Tamil Nadu government has cancelled a resolution adopted by the Samattur town panchayat in Coimbatore district which strongly criticised the Special Judge in Bangalore who delivered the verdict in the disproportionate assets case against former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The resolution was adopted on September 30.

Originally, R.S.Bharathi filed a petition in the Madras High Court condemning the unpalatable language in which the Special Court judgment was commented upon. The town panchayat had adopted a resolution and the Vellore Mayor had made remarks against the Special Judge.

Following this, the High Court had directed the Vellore Mayor and the chairperson of the town panchayat to tender an apology and also publicise it. They complied with the order.

The court also said the government should take steps to cancel the resolution.

Accordingly, by an order of January 7, the government cancelled the resolution.
