TNSC bank launches e-payment of power bills

Easy way to pay: Minister for Cooperation, Sellur K. Raju launching electricity bill payment service through net banking.

The more than a century-old Tamil Nadu State Co-operative Bank Ltd that prides itself in keeping pace with the changing times, has introduced a facility for payment of electricity consumption bills through internet banking for its customers.

The facility, which is free of cost, was inaugurated by State Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju, in the present of a host of bank officials at a simple function in the TNSC head office at NSC Bose Road on August 2.

Among those present were M.P. Nirmala, Secretary, Cooperation; P. Annamalai, Registrar of Cooperative Societies; R. Rajendran, Additional Registrar (Finance & Banking); M.P. Sivan Arul, Special Officer, TNSC Bank; G. Ravikumar, General Manager, TNSC Bank; and R. Karthikeyan, Special Officer of the Chennai Central Cooperative Bank. Speaking to Downtown after the function, Mr. Sivan Arul said that the TNSC had entered into an agreement with the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) for providing this service to its customers.

On the bank’s future plans, he said: “We propose to add payment of other bills such as BSNL, insurance etc to the facilities offered to customers. Already, our customers enjoy the ‘Push Message’ option whereby there receive SMS on their cell phones about their bank account status. Soon, they can avail the ‘Pull Message’ opportunity wherein the customers can seek details from the bank regarding their account. The customers, especially elderly people, are happy with our mobile alerts that bring them closer to their bank,” he added. He said TNSC was taking steps to provide ATM facility in all its branches by tying up with other banks. It is already providing locker service in almost all the branches. The bank is also offering National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) facility whereby customers can transfer money up to Rs. two lakhs from home to anywhere in the country.

Mr. Sivan Arul said the bank was proud that its clients included third generation and even fourth generation customers. “As always, we like to keep our traditional low profile, while striving to provide the best service to the people,” he added.
