Time will tell PMK’s stand, says Karunanidhi

August 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 01:07 pm IST - CHENNAI:

DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Monday said only time would tell whether PMK founder S. Ramadoss would not compromise on his stand that he would not align with the Dravidian parties.

“There is no meaning to his pledge that he would not form an alliance with the Dravidian parties. He has announced similar stand every now and then. Whether he will be firm on his stand will be known in the course of time,” Mr Karunanidhi told reporters.

The DMK leader said his party was fully prepared for the Assembly polls, but refused to divulge whether the party’s manifesto would offer freebies or not.

On the allegation that a few DMK leaders were also running breweries, he said those who are prone to making allegations would continue doing so. “But we are advocating prohibition for all,” he said.

Condemning the police action on students, Mr. Karunanidhi said the students had not committed any big crime that warranted such a severe lathi-charge. “The police surrounded the students and targeted them. A situation that needed careful handling has resulted in violence,” he said.

If approached the DMK would take a decision on supporting the bandh announced by some political parties, he said. “We have no plans to approach other political parties to support our demonstration on August 10. They are welcome to participate,” Mr. Karunanidhi said.
