Three youth murdered outside Gummidipoondi railway station

Two of them were murder accused; police suspect revenge attack

Three youngsters were murdered by a gang outside the Gummidipoondi railway station late on Saturday.

According to the police, Akash, 18, a college student from Gummidipoondi, was chatting with his friends Vimal, 22, of the same locality, and Satish, 21, of Tondiarpet in Ma.Po.Si Nagar, near the railway station, when they were attacked.

Police claim that the gang chased the three and attacked them with sharp weapons. CCTV footage showed a few persons attacking the trio even as residents watched.

Suspects flee

In the footage, a few youngsters can be seen running away from the scene of crime and residents taking to their heels.

. “The images are not very clear as it was night time,” said a police officer.

While Vimal and Satish died on the spot, Akash died on the way to the hospital. “We have recovered a sharp weapon from the scene of the crime,” the officer said.

Teams formed

Soon after the incident, senior police officers visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. Five special teams have been formed to trace the murderers.

“Vimal and Satish have been named in the murder of Shajahan that took place in the same locality the same month last year. We suspect that this murder was an act of revenge,” said the police officer.

“Forensic experts have gathered some evidence from the scene of the crime and we are questioning some residents who witnessed the attack,” the officer said, adding that the accused would be arrested soon.
