G. Kasturi, the former editor of The Hindu has found a place in the Class XI Advanced Tamil textbook for State board schools in a chapter dedicated to journalism trends in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil textbook is part of the syllabus revamp called for by the State Government for State board schools.

The Hindu from 1965 to 1991, with regard to the technology associated with the newspaper such as the use of facsimile transmission system as well as the marketing and distribution systems in place, have been detailed.

‘A pioneer’

“Kasturi was a pioneer when it came to revolutionising the technology involved with regard to newspapers, as well as how he took the newspaper to different parts of the country with an effective marketing and distribution system which we wanted students to read about,” said T. Udhayachandran, Additional Director of the School Education Department.

“As a part of the Advanced Tamil subject, we are keen that students learn about a number of fields and felt that it was important for them to learn about Journalism. Journalism is not just limited to writing and publishing articles and the chapter has spoken in detail about the various facets,” he added.

Bharathiyar, Periyar, T.S. Chokkalingam, S.P. Adithanar, A.N. Sivaraman and V.M. Kodhainayaki Ammal are the other personalities featured for their important contribution to journalism.
