Team will examine site for Institute of Ageing

A team commissioned by the Union Health Ministry, which is currently in the State to examine locations for the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Tamil Nadu, is expected visit the site for the National Institute of Ageing inside King Institute of Preventive Medicine’s campus in Guindy over the weekend.

Speaking to reporters at Madras Medical College on Friday, health secretary J. Radhakrishnan said the team had examined four of the five proposed sites.

“On Saturday, they examined the site for the National Institute of Ageing in Guindy and then will proceed to Chengalpattu to examine the fifth site for the AIIMS,” he said.

As of now, the team has been satisfied with all the sites they have examined and once they return, will give reports about each of the locations, he said. The institute is an extension of the Central government-sponsored National Programme for the Healthcare of the Elderly.
