TASMAC shop looted of Rs. 6 lakh

A 5-member gang looted a TASMAC shop of the daily collection amount of around Rs.6 lakhs at Villiyambakkam near Chengalpattu on Sunday night. In another incident, a TASMAC staff was waylaid and robbed of Rs. 2 lakh by a gang on Chennai-Bangalore National Highway near Sunguvarchatram on Sunday night.

According to police, the dacoits arrived around midnight and started breaking the locks of the shop located at Villiyambakkam near Chengalpattu. On hearing the noise, Chandiyappan of Villiyambakkam, who was engaged by the wine shop staff to keep a watch on the establishment during night hours, rushed to the shop and attempted to prevent the gang from committing the crime. However, he was overpowered by the gang members who beat him and tied him up with a rope. Subsequently, the gang entered the shop and took away the cash chest and some wine bottles with them before leaving the shop.

In another incident, a four-member-gang which came on two motorcycles waylaid Gopi, a supervisor at Nemili TASMAC wine shop, near Sriperumpudur at around 11 p.m. on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway on Sunday night and stole Rs.2 lakhs from him.

Gopi, a resident of Kancheepuram, had the day’s collection with him while returning home by bike. While he reached Mambakkam, near Sunguvarchatram, his vehicle was intercepted by the gang, which relieved the cash from him at knife point.
