A cable fault left large parts of Government Stanley Hospital in Mint with no power since Sunday night. The power cut lasted most of Monday as well.

Power supply was disrupted around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday, and only the building housing the plastic surgery unit had electricity. Around 2 a.m., supply was restored to a few blocks.

The X-ray room near the Casualty block was shut down on Monday as power supply was not restored even around 3 p.m. The generator that was used as a back up malfunctioned and the hospital had to requisition a generator from outside, a member of the hospital staff said. This led to the cancellation of some surgeries . While the hospital blamed the Public Works Department (PWD) for not carrying out the maintenance, the PWD cited lack of funds.

Hospital Dean S. Gitalakshmi said there was no disruption in the power supply to the intensive medical care unit or the surgical block.
