Two compartments of a suburban train headed to Chennai Central derailed at Basin Bridge on Saturday, throwing rail traffic out of gear for more than an hour.
Train no. 42034, a nine-car rake, was plying on the Gummidipoondi-Moore Market Complex route. Around 6.30 p.m., the wheel of one of the coaches, third from the engine, went off the track. No casualty was reported.
A crane was deployed from the Basin Bridge train care centre to lift the dislodged wheel and place it back on to the track. Normal track movement was restored around 7.45 p.m.

The train was moving at speeds of less than 25 kmph as the incident happened just after the train had left Basin Bridge Station, said a railway official.
Earlier in the day, rain delayed the movement of trains to the Southern cities according to a railway police officer.
Sources said all trains going South were delayed by an hour.
