An MTC bus on route 11 plying between T. Nagar and Broadway turned into a battle ground after a group of students armed with sickles and knives attacked their rivals onboard. A girl student travelling in the bus sustained injuries and two buses were damaged leaving other passengers and motorists petrified.

According to Dhanapal, conductor of the bus, the incident took place around 2.20 p.m. on Friday when the bus came to the Shanti theatre stop. “A group of students were creating a ruckus inside when another group of over 25 students with knives entered the vehicle and began attacking them,” Dhanapal added.

The driver swerved the bus toward Dams Road and stopped. While the students clashed, terrified passengers tried to flee the bus. “I was seated near the window and literally froze with the clash unfolding in front of me. The attackers broke windshields using sickles and sticks. The glass pieces fell on all of us and my left hand began bleeding,” said the girl student who was later taken to a hospital.
